A stunning pair of 19th-century French hard-paste porcelain armorial plates crafted by the legendary Paris atelier Edme Samson et Cie.
Modeled after rare 18th-century Chinese export porcelain, these 7.75-inch cabinet/dessert plates showcase a vibrant Famille Rose color palette. The center is hand-painted with a thick, layered enamel coat of arms featuring the motto banner "CONFIDO". The inner borders are intricately decorated with raised white enamel slip (bianco-sopra-bianco scrollwork), a premium technique used to mimic imperial export wares. The reverse of each plate features the workshop's signature iron-red pseudo-Chinese seal.
Condition: Beautiful antique condition overall. The hand-painted enamels show minor, age-appropriate discoloration and gentle wear to the gold gilt rim, giving the pair an authentic historical patina. One plate shows faint, cosmetic glaze crazing on the underside that does not affect the structural strength of the porcelain. Free of chips or repairs.
